Plant

45-50mm tall with a rosette of 3-4 elliptic bluish green leaves.

Flowers

Medium sized to 20 mm tall. Petals and dorsal sepal quite blunt. Lateral sepals stout short. Labellum crimson brown, broad; stigma prominent, heart shaped.

Flowering

November - January.

Habitat

High rainfall montane and subalpine scrub and grassland. Central North Island to Westland.

Conservation

In scattered populations, naturally uncommon.

Notes

Similar to P. venosa and only readily distinguished by the heart-shaped stigma.

Key features

Alpine habitat, very stout flower, heart-shaped stigma.
