Plant

With a sessile, usually kidney-shaped leaf, low on the stem often flat to the ground.

Flowers

Colourless to dull pink to maroon with flat, oblong, glistening conspicuous labellum bearing nectar droplets and two conspicuous basal calli.

Flowering

July - August.

Habitat

Open scrub and shaded forest, often coastal. Northland to Nelson.

Conservation

Often numerous and locally scattered densely over a wide area; not threatened.

Notes

Ecologically distinct but very similar to C. oblonga and not always easily distinguished as the flowers are identical. The leaves can be quite variable, sometimes almost oblong.

Key features

A broad, weakly veined leaf but leaves quite variable in size and shape in one locality.
