Plant

Sometimes in large colonies. Leaf fleshy orbicular, 15-20mm diameter. Flower shortly stalked separating below the leaf.

Flowers

Almost clear, translucent with green and red swirling markings, petals and sepals stiff and erect. Labellum pointed, the edges scalloped.

Flowering

October.

Habitat

Wet alpine areas.

Conservation

A plant originally discovered on Macquarie Island and only recently identified in New Zealand, including Campbell Island. Threatened - Nationally Critical.

Notes

Central Volcanic Plateau plants were tagged C. “rest area”. Somewhat like C. orbiculatus.

Key features

Round leaf, flowers above the leaf but separating from below, pale widely open labellum, petals much shorter than lateral sepals, labellum outer margin wavy.
