Plant

Up to 15cm tall, usually with two unequal basal leaves, often blotched brown, elliptic or linear.

Flowers

Usually solitary but up to 4, 15-25 mm across; labellum broad white, with brown markings that have a broad yellow halo.

Flowering

December - January.

Habitat

Montane scrub; sphagnum wetlands at lower altitudes. Mt. Moehau southwards.

Conservation

Often locally abundant, not threatened.

Notes

Leaves are occasionally solitary.

Key features

Two different sized hairy leaves and quite large white flower.
