Plant

Brownish purple in stem, leaf and outside of buds. Leaf arched, thin, V-shaped to flat.

Flowers

Few, large for size of plant, mauve to pink, sometimes white. Column white to pale violet. Top rounded, brown, apex yellow, rolled, weakly notched. Triangular spurs may be present just below the column arms.

Flowering

January - February.

Habitat

Montane scrub, usually beech forest or tussock grassland. Ruapehu.

Conservation

Widespread, but at risk - naturally uncommon.

Notes

Resembles small dark forms of T longifolia (possibly T alba Col) but has a narrow, arching, V-section leaf and shallow notched column. Voucher specimen (CHR537579; Whakapapa)

Key features

Flowers relatively large, white tinged pink or mauve, spurs beneath column arms.
