Plant

With usually 2 broad leaves with parallel veins, plants closely hugging the ground.

Flowers

Green, sometimes reddish, 20-30mm across. Labellum with large, glossy green or reddish brown sessile calli. Fertilised capsule on a stem to 30cm.

Flowering

October - February.

Habitat

Scrub and well lit forest from lowland to alpine; common in mature pine forests. Throughout.

Conservation

Widespread, often very common; not threatened. Also in Australia.

Notes

Although the calli are always in a simple pattern (2 basal, 2 central, 2 lateral) they vary in colour, number and size. The size of the floral bract is also variable.

Key features

Pair of broad green leaves and large flower, a few large bead like, shiny calli on labellum.
