Plant

Scattered, slender, 5-20cm tall, with a sessile leaf part way up the stem and usually a solitary white flower.

Flowers

Green, hooded dorsal sepal. Labellum usually red striped or spotted, with 2 rows of yellow calli from base to labellum tip.

Flowering

December - January.

Habitat

Damp to wet montane, cool beech, podocarp or introduced pine forest. Central North Island southwards.

Conservation

Local, scattered but common. Not Threatened.

Key features

Star-like flower, relatively broad leaf above ground level and clasping the stem.
