Acianthus sinclairii
Pixie Cap - Heart leaf Orchid PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
2 to 10cm high when in flower. Stem erect and slender, square in cross-section. LEAVES: Single heart shaped leaf one-third to half way up the stem, 1 to 3cm long. Dark green, often with variable amounts of purple.
FLOWERS: Up to 10. Each 6 - 8mm in length. Greenish, with dull red or maroon on the labellum. Dorsal sepal cupped over the column. Labellum widely-cupped and with a pointed tip. Lateral sepals have pointed tails and face forward underneath the labellum.
Petals shorter, facing sideways. FLOWERING TIME: May - October.
HABITAT: Lowland forests and scrub.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Not threatened. Locally common.
NOTES: Plants with colourless flowers are common. |
