Thelymitra nervosa
Syn: Thelymitra decora Spotted Sun Orchid PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
Up to 40cm tall. LEAVES: Single, long, 10mm wide, channelled, with a prominent keel.
FLOWERS: Up to 10 flowers. 1.5cm across. Flowers dark lavender blue, sometimes mauve/pink or white, with darker blue spots on the petals. Top of the column with a horseshoe of bright yellow around the opening.
FLOWERING TIME:
October - January. HABITAT: Lowland to sub-alpine. Sunny positions on clay banks, open areas amongst scrub, forest margins, amongst tussock.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Not threatened. Locally common.
NOTES: A putative amphidiploid hybrid of T longifolia & T aff ixioides and therefore variable. Features of each parent show to varying degrees in different specimens. Unspotted flowers sometimes occur. |
