Pterostylis foliata
Slender Greenhood PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
15 - 40cm tall when in flower. Slender. LEAVES: Lower leaves elliptic, approx 5 x 1cm in size, forming an irregular rosette. Stem leaves consist of 1 or 2 sheathing bracts up the stem, 2-3 cm long.
FLOWER: Single. 2cm high, erect. Green with translucent white stripes. Dorsal sepal tip very short, dark green. Petals more or less the same length as the dorsal sepal. Lateral sepals diverge at a narrow angle, tips usually erect. Labellum broad, dark green above, pale beneath, gradually narrowing toward the tip.
Stigma elliptic, slightly prominent. FLOWERING TIME: October - December.
HABITAT: Lowland to montane. Open scrub, banks, and grassy places.
CONSERVATION STATUS: At Risk - Naturally Uncommon.
NOTES: Flower stem elongates considerably after pollination. |
