Pterostylis australis
Greenhood PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
Up to 30cm high when in flower. LEAVES: 3 to 6 leaves. Up to 16cm long by 1.5 cm wide. The shape changing from bottom to top. Lower leaves elliptic to broadly elliptic. Upper leaves longer and narrower.
FLOWER: Single. 3 - 5cm high. Dark to pale green with white stripes. Dorsal sepal turned downward. Lateral sepals reflexed slightly backward. Labellum dark green, flushed red from the mid-point to the tip.
FLOWERING TIME:
November to December. HABITAT: Lowland to sub-alpine forests. Mainly montane in the North Is.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Not Threatened.
NOTES: There is a degree of debate as to the true identity of P australis. |
