Cyrtostylis oblonga
Gnat Orchid PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
To 10cm high when in flower. Stem slender, erect. LEAVES: Single leaf at the base of the stem, 1 to 3cm long, oblong to ovate.
FLOWERS: 1 to 4. Each 8 - 10mm in length. Maroon, pink, pinkish-green or colourless. Dorsal sepal erect. Lateral sepals and petals similar, narrow and projecting forward. Labellum 10 x 4mm, projecting forward, flat and oblong, with nectar droplets and two prominent basal calli.
FLOWERING TIME:
July - October. HABITAT: Kauri forest, light forest, scrub, open ground.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Not threatened. Locally common.
NOTES: Structurally similar to Cyrtostylis rotundifolia except for the shape of the leaves. |
