Thelymitra "sansfimbria"
Sun Orchid PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
Robust. Up to 60cm tall when in flower. Solitary, or growing in clumps. LEAVES: Single, long, wide, and keeled. Forms a long sheath at the base of the flower stem.
FLOWERS: Up to 6 or more flowers. Up to 2cm across, plain blue with no stripes. Fragrant, said to resemble a Fressia or Violet aroma. The column arms are variable, but on most specimens they are flat, pointed, toothed blades that lack any cilia.
FLOWERING TIME: October - December.
HABITAT: Damp areas amongst scrub.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Not Recorded.
NOTES: A perfumed, unstriped form of Thelymitra pulchella recorded from Northland, but possibly found elsewhere. The taxonomic status is still unclear. |
