Thelymitra "rough leaf"
Sun Orchid PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
Robust. Up to 40cm tall when in flower. Stem a dark reddish-brown. LEAVES: Single. Upright or floppy. Relatively flat in cross-section with a slight keel. Approx 10mm wide. Back of leaf is rough to the touch.
FLOWERS: Up to 10 flowers.
1 - 1.5 cm across. Mauve to pink in colour. Tepals broadly oval with pointed tips, and have a 'chunky' appearance. Flowers seldom open. Solid, squat column with a blunt apex. Top of the column has an oblong opening with a bright yellow and thick margin. FLOWERING TIME: October.
HABITAT: Lowland sunny track sides and ridge tops.
CONSERVATION STATUS: At Risk - Naturally Uncommon.
NOTES: Structurally very similar to Thelymitra pauciflora. An undescribed species from Northland. |
