Pterostylis subsimilis
Greenhood PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
7 - 20cm tall. LEAVES: Up to 5 broad, oval leaves, 10cm x 1.3cm. Tips narrow & pointed. The lowest leaf small and narrow.
FLOWER: Single, often leaning forward, 3cm high. Green with translucent white stripes. Dorsal sepal down-turned at the tip. Lateral sepals short and turned backwards, tips usually orange. Labellum red with a prominent mid-rib. Stigma long & wider than the column.
FLOWERING TIME: November - December.
HABITAT: Montane to sub-alpine forest, scrub and tracksides.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Not Threatened.
NOTES: Found in the Ruahine, Tararua and Aorangi Ranges. Similar in appearance to Pterostylis areolata and Pterostylis patens. The taxonomic status is still unclear. |
