Pterostylis aff montana
Greenhood PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
Plants up to 30cm high. LEAVES: Usually 4 - 6. Up to 15cm in length. Grass like.
FLOWER: Single. 2 - 3cm high. Green with translucent white stripes, sometimes with red in the dorsal & lateral sepals. Flower structures vary depending on the species. Labellum either twisted at the tip or straight. Dorsal & lateral sepals either short or long depending on the species. Ends of the lateral sepals are usually tubular.
FLOWERING TIME:
September - January. HABITAT: Forests, forest margins, scrubland.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Not Threatened. Common.
NOTES: There are several undescribed taxa which have similarities with Pterostylis montana, but which appear to be distinct species. Structures vary greatly. The photos illustrate 5 forms from the Central North Island. |
