Nematoceras "whiskers"
Spider Orchid PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
4 to 6cm high when in flower LEAVES: Single leaf, 3 x 3.5cm, often smaller, orbicular to oblong-oval.
FLOWER: Solitary. Perfumed. Flower above the leaf. 2 - 2.5cm high. Labellum translucent creamy-yellow with red. Labellum broad-rounded in shape and covered in prominent short clear hairs. Lateral sepals long and usually erect. Petals slightly shorter than lateral sepals. Forward facing auricles large and flared.
FLOWERING TIME: August - November.
HABITAT: Very wet moss-covered banks and stream sides.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Data Deficient. Uncommon.
NOTES: Recorded from Northland to the banks of the Hutt River at Kaitoke - Upper Hutt. Also in North West Nelson in the South Island. |
