Nematoceras "Pollok"
Spider Orchid PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
4 to 6cm high when in flower. LEAVES: Single leaf, silver-green below, yellowish-green above, with very few marginal purple spots.
FLOWER: Solitary. Flower well above the leaf on a long slender ovary. Dorsal sepal pale grey-green, extending well in front of the flower, narrowing to an acute tip. Centre of labellum crimson, outer areas a translucent white. Labellum tapers to an acute tip. Lateral sepals long (approx 3cm) and upright. Petals long, facing forward and downward.
FLOWERING TIME: August - September.
HABITAT: Damp sandstone cliff faces in native forest.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Not Recorded.
NOTES: Discovered in 2004 on the Awhitu Peninsula, South Auckland. |
