Diplodium brumale
Syn: Pterostylis brumalis Kauri Greenhood PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
To 20cm tall. Slender. LEAVES: FLOWERING PLANTS: Stem leaves 4 - 5, up to 4cm in length, often bunched in a group near the top of the stem.
NON FLOWERING PLANTS: Basal leaves in a rosette, oval, and less than 1cm across. FLOWER: Single. 1.5 - 2cm high. Green with translucent white stripes. Dorsal sepal incurved. Lateral sepals diverge at a wide angle. Prominent spout to the sinus of the lateral sepals. Labellum narrow-triangular, protruding. Stigma elliptic, slightly prominent.
FLOWERING TIME: April - August.
HABITAT: Shady areas in the vicinity of Kauri trees.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Not Threatened. Uncommon.
NOTES: Diplodium species have distinct adult and juvenile stages. |
